Turn right and follow the fire track down hill to a mwp hand bend then climb to a junction GR Mach 3 Route This route shares some trail with Mach 2, before heading off south through the forest and onto the moors before returning along some sweet track and grass descents.
They have excellent beer and occasional food. Gravity enduro and similar events creating more trails in the forest has also been great, and the popularity of these events must be an economic boost for the area also. The climachx is 4 miles north of Machynlleth, a pleasant ride along National Cycle Route 8. Just follow the red arrows.
Stay on the Cli-machx trail traill following the singletrack va-va-voom off to the right. The finale is a sequence of eight huge berms following quickly after each other. Follow the fire track for a while, through a right hand bend then down a fast descent. Its a while since I did these trails and I remember at the time thinking I’d need several days to have a proper look – really do need to go back and see what I’ve missed.
A steep climb up to the forest is followed by a long flowing descent to Bryn Coch Bach, and then the final descent of Mach 1. At the next junction go straight on to climb past the start of the singletrack where’s my ball?
It winds up the hill, right then left, to come out at another section of fire track GR Coed y Brenin is 10 minutes away in a car and can also be reached directly by bike along a section of quiet back roads.

Just before the fire track goes through another tight right hand bend, at a stream gully cut into the hillside, take the steep, muddy, rocky and rutted climb on the left, into the trees GR Hit them high enough and fast enough and they ride really well, but don’t look down!

The first three are natural trails running deep into the forests and mountains. Start from the Cli-machx car park GR and follow the Cli-machx trail up the long fire track climb. Dyfi – lots to do. The up is very steep and so the down is as rewarding. Go left, then right at the junction you crossed earlier. There are no facilities at the trail head but there is a pub [ Tafarn Dwynant ] that serves food in neighbouring Ceinws a couple of hundred metres away.
