The character of Semi qursia very bold and she does not hesitate to claim her love for Aftab or asking about his sexual preferences. But she does not sacrifice the flow of the narrative anywhere in this novel. In the opinion of many readers and critics she manages to convince them that the pursuance of Haraam, be it financial, moral or emotional, results in the deterioration of a person’s normality in some sense.
She seems to suggest that the abnormality is transferred genetically to the next generation.
But she does not sacrifice the flow of the narrative anywhere in this novel. From Prem Chand to Manto, there is a huge number of short story writers who gifted urdu literature with gems of Afsaana nigari, but unfortunately, apart from some isolated efforts the trend of novel writing, to my limited knowledge, has been stagnated for long time.
I strongly recommend this novel to all and lot of thanks to Bano Qudsia for such a great contribution to Urdu literature Views Read Edit View history. View all 20 comments. Exclusive Deals and Offers! Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.
It wasn’t my cup of tea but a good book regardless. In my case there was considerable turmoil, excitement, desire and a strong longing for the unknown.

Aftab belongs to a Kashmiri business family. Ishq la-hasil, kabhi na khatam honay wali justujo yan mout ki aagahi? Sorry for a super long review, but I really want everyone to read it and see how beautiful was our literature, before gidb destroyed it by our religious extremism and so called social and cultural values. The novel seeks to unravel the mystery of human madness in which there are two forms, either constructive madness or destructive madness. This is a book with so deep a meaning, it’s going to take a while for you to absorb it.
The name anticipates the kingdom of vultures. No trivia or quizzes yet. This novel strongly reflects on the negatives points of our society today.

Bano Qudsia has written this novel drawing on the religious concept of Haraam and Halaal. Seemin Shah, hailing from an upper middle class family, falls in love with her handsome class fellow Aftab in the MA Sociology class at Government College Lahore.
She has her own views and I have my own views. Some of them gained immense popularity across the border because of their vitality, warmth and courage. View all 3 comments. I love his character and his views and opinions on things. Jun 25, Humera gull rated it really liked it Shelves: The most boring description of events, cliched characters students of philosophy department in Punjab University dull dialogues, it seemed like a revenge from the reader.
But I couldn’t relate myself to it at allso I guess it wasn’t meant for me. Almost every novel follows a religious theme with a super pious girl who knows nothing about the world. People like me gidb in a cocoon of safety and blissful ignorance and like to pretend that there is nothing wrong with the world. Lists with This Book. Her characters are not black and white ones as some of the critics would like to qussia. View all 7 comments. This product has not received a written review yet.

Qudsia also wrote for television and stage in both Urdu and Punjabi languages. Bano Qudsia was recognized as a trendsetter in the realm of television plays. Bano Qudsia is among those Urdu writers who would think ten times before writing a sentence.
The novel then takes on touching several moral and ethical issues, beyond the love triangle plot, depicted through the rich culture and everyday life of Lahore.
Like she kept describing the beauty of Seemin but when it came to her religious class fellows she talked about them as some forbidden species. The overall tone of the book was very depressing and a sense of hopelessness prevailed. The only part that I fell in love with is how she introduced the Kingdom of Birds to convey all these complex theories and discussions as they hold a meeting to expel ‘Gidhs’ from their jungle on the account of incurring madness from feeding on human corpses.
Qudsia is best known for her novel Raja Gidh. So in a state of such paucity, this particular book is a priceless piece of literature.
